Come di consueto pubblico la mia applicazione per la gestione della contabilità familiare. Ecco rilasciata la versione 5.0.1 di Spese, edizione 2009; non contiene sostanziali modifiche alla versione precedente, ma solo bugfixes.

Chrome is new open source browser developed by Google, outed today (ops…yesterday, midnight is past), and it’s really a revolution. You could imagine a super sofisticated browser, and insted Google suprises all as always.
It has a really simple and clear interface, for every user.
It’s really rapid with javascript, thanks to its js virtual machine. Yes, it isn’t a Java virtual machine but a Javascript virtual machine. It improves a lot js code execution, and the result is that you get a page in milliseconds.
Only a bar, Omnibox, you’ll never lose yourself with too many bars. It’s similar to Firefox 3 awesome bar, but it includes also search bar.
One process for every tab, a problem on a tab doesn’t affect all opened browser tabs and garbage collection is better managed.
No need to set full screen mode: tabs are displayed at top to save space, and there aren’t too many toolbars or status bars.
Homepage contains 9 thumbnails of most visited sites, most recently bookmarked pages and history search.
And finally a pearl…options are spitted in three tabs: Basics, Minor Tweaks, Under the Hood (in Italian: Impostazioni di base, Piccoli ritocchi, Roba da smanettoni)…really funny 
I evaluate this as a killer application that will have a great part of market. Now is only a beta test but I see a pink future for this browser; Google always introduces great innovations and applications but I think this will be the better program.

What do you think about?
It’s similar to Apple Spotlight, limited to links (it’s not a desktop search like Spotlight or Google Desktop), but it’s useful to launch your programs without using mouse.
Just type alt+space and write what you want to launch, you’ll be prompted with more options similar to your search.

Woopra is a statistic program very complete, with a beautiful and catchy interface. It needs online registration and activation (it’s still in beta and you’ll be activated after some time) and you need to download the client to install on your computer.
Woopra has more features, and the most important thing it’s there are organized and ready to read and understand; I think it’s better of Google Analytics, because it’s more direct and immediate. But if you want custom statistics, use Google Analytics.
You can view all features, some are really innovative, like the live tracking (I adore it) and the chat with visitors (wow!!).
Ext JS (Ext) is a javascript-based framework for developing Rich Internet Applications, and it’s simply wonderful.
Other Javascript frameworks like JQuery, Prototype and many others are powerful and let you make web pages cooler and more interactive, but their limits are evident. Yes, your web pages will be shorter than plain javascript files but if you wanna develop web applications or someother more complex, you need other, you need Ext.
Ext has many built-in components, which enables you with only a little lines of javascript to create an evoluted graphical user interface, with associated events. You can build forms with embedded form validation, data grid with dynamic options like editing or sorting, or you can simulate a desktop environment with windows in a web page. And more: feed readers, tabbed windows, trees, dynamic loaded combos, and all you can need. It’s also skinnable and customizable. It’s cross-browser compatible, and you don’t need to worry about browser incompatibilities.
And the magic of this tool is that you can forget all javascript functions, you’ll need to know only javascript and json syntax, all the rest is Ext and only Ext.
It’s used by many important and famous customers and that’s a sign of reliability and powerfulness of this framework. You find the customers list in home page. There’ s a complete and well explained documentation, and there are also nice examples to begin learning, some tutorials and a forum to get support.

Tra i programmi che uso c’è Folding@home, un’applicazione che utilizza il nostro pc (o ancor meglio la nostra Ps3, con molta più potenza computazionale) per portare avanti un progetto dell’Università di Stanford che cerca le correlazioni tra le varie proteine. Lo scopo è capire come interagiscono le proteine del nostro corpo, per poi riuscire a sconfiggere malattie come l’Alzheimer, il Parkinson, il cancro e tante altre. Per questo progetto serve molta potenza computazionale, ed è qui che noi entiamo in gioco. Possiamo collaborare semplicemente installando questo programma, che sfrutta i tempi morti della nostra cpu per eseguire i calcoli. Se per esempio lasciamo il computer acceso senza far nulla, la potenza e la corrente elettrica del nostro computer non saranno sprecate, perché avranno contribuito a questo importante progetto.

Premesso che ritengo Internet Explorer il peggior browser esistente sulla terra, spiego come poter usare versioni diverse di Internet Explorer sullo stesso pc.
Putroppo ci tocca usarlo per testare le nostre pagine/applicazioni web, ed è meglio usarlo nelle sue due ultime versioni (Ie6 e Ie7). Ora se si dispone con un pc dotato di Ie6 e si aggiorna il browser, si perderà la versione 6 per avere solamente la 7. Chi invece ha già la 7 non può fare certo downgrade.
Ma ecco la soluzione: con Multiple Ie possiamo far convivere tutte quante le versioni di Internet Explorer, a partire dalla 3, fino alla 6 (la 7 dovrà già essere installata sul proprio computer grazie a Windows). Consiglio di installare solamente la 6, ed al massimo la 5.5, in quanto le altre versioni sono più che obsolete.
Dopo l’euforia iniziale che si è diffusa col divulgarsi del web 2.0, sorgono delle riflessioni: ma serve tutto questo 2.0?
Certamente una cosa meravigliosa che offre il nuovo web è la fornitura di qualsiasi servizio digitalmente fruibile, e molto spesso in modo gratuito, al contrario di buona parte delle applicazioni desktop. Parliamo però dei social network…ma quanti ce ne sono? Ci servono realmente tutti? Lo ammetto, anch’io mi faccio prendere e mi iscrivo ovunque capito, e finalmente posso dire “ci sono anch’io” in ogni qualsivoglia sito. Ma cosa me ne faccio di tutti questi account, che tra sì e no ne userò un quarto? Credo proprio, come tanti altri, di rientrare nella categoria “prezzemolini del web“.
A tal proposito, condivido con questo articolo l’idea che le killer application del 2008 saranno gli aggregatori di identità digitali, che permettono di loggarsi ad un unico servizio che li comprende tutti quanti.
La versione 5 dell’applicativo è finalmente pronta per il rilascio, dopo un periodo di testing. Spese 2008 introduce qualche nuova funzionalità, ma lo sviluppo si è incentrato soprattutto verso la semplificazione della logica preesistente. Vediamo in breve le novità introdotte:
- Separati fogli di inserimento dati dai fogli di riepilogo
- Possibilità di cambiare i nomi dei vari conti bancari, che sono al massimo 6
- Liste di elementi più lunghe: spese, entrate e movimenti mensili, lista categorie e persone per debiti e crediti
- Introdotto il pannello movimenti più semplificato, comprensivo di commissioni, ora calcolate automaticamente
- Introdotte le sottocategorie per uscite ed entrate (per poter generare tabelle pivot con sottocategorie)
- Migliorata gestione storico dei debiti e crediti, ora con quantità saldate
- Design più accurato e gradevole, più adatto a schermi wide
